Dolan Geiman | Chicago, Illinois

My sister first introduced me to Dolan Geiman's work with a print she picked up in Chicago (not pictured here). Dolan's work is almost all mixed media, and he describes it himself as "Contemporary Art with a Southern Accent." You might find him at art/craft fairs around, well, from Texas to Wisconsin really - there's a schedule on his website www.dolangeiman.com. Of course, he also has an etsy shop at www.etsy.com/shop/dolangeiman.

Sarah Landwehr | Portland, OR

I've seen Sarah's work at craft fair events around Portland numerous times now, and I already admired the graphic quality of her wall hanging blocks (such as the black birds pictured); however, I fell absolutely in LOVE with her screen print of the two owls I've linked here and got one for myself. I just smile every time I pass it at the top of the stairs. Check out her etsy shop "Two Sarahs" at www.etsy.com/shop/TwoSarahs, or keep your eye out for her work at Portland craft events!

Yellena James | Portland, OR

I love the incorporation of organic/plant motifs and structures of microorganism in Yellena James' work. She also does a great job with her use of color. She has many many affordable prints available on her etsy shop: www.etsy.com/shop/yellena; or check out her main website www.yellena.com.

Julia Pott | London, England

I love Julia Pott's silly animal illustrations. Can't get enough of them! You can get your own via her shop www.etsy.com/shop/Juliapott where she also has links to her flickr page, and more! She also makes great animated shorts which you can check out on her youtube page. Love, love, love!

Melissa Bryant | Indianapolis, Indiana

Indianapolis artist Melissa Bryant makes interesting digital art illustrations using scans of fabric to compose color areas (such as the grass in the piece featured here). She also has a bunch of illustrations of handsome chairs available that apply this same fabric technique in her etsy shop www.etsy.com/shop/mywireempire. I snatched up a landscape for myself a few months back.

Leah Giberson | Boston, MA

Leah Giberson's acrylic and mixed media paintings have a lonely, still quality - in this paintings she's featuring chairs, though she also has pieces with houses, camping trailers, etc. A common theme in her work is stillness and harsh afternoon light, in the tradition of Edward Hopper. I love her work; I appreciate her level of detail and use of color. She has an etsy shop, of course: www.etsy.com/shop/leahgiberson.

David Fullarton | San Francisco

San Francisco artist David Fullarton's collage work is full of truly inspired and comical irritability. I can't get enough of it. He does have an etsy shop www.etsy.com/shop/fullarton though he doesn't seem to be using it much. Don't worry though! He displays his work on this Flick page www.flickr.com/photos/fullarton/, he has a great website: www.davidfullarton.com, some prints can be purchased at www.society6.com/studio/davidfullarton/ and you can actually buy a book of some of his illustrations I Can't Apologise Enough from an on-demand press called Blurb (I did!). Now, browse away!

Mincing Mockingbird/Matt Adrian | Los Angeles

I love too many of LA artist Matt Adrian/Mincing Mockingbird's paintings to settle on just one, but here's an example. His bird portraits have so much personality and color.
You can find his prints for sale at www.etsy.com/shop/mincingmockingbird and also via his other shop site mincingmockingbird.bigcartel.com/.

Knitting Birds - Kristiana Pärn | New York

New York City artist Kristiana Pärn. I like this piece of hers the best. It's so sweet and has great bold colors. Check out her available prints at www.etsy.com/shop/krisblues. She also has a website www.kristianaparn.com.

Introduction

I have spent quite a while sifting through artwork posted on etsy.com in particular looking for prints of artwork that fits my style and budget. It takes a lot of time to get through artwork I don't like to find the absolute gems available there. I have found many artists whose work I really love, and I especially love that I can get affordable prints from them. I sometimes also find great independent artists at craft fairs and galleries - some of whom also have etsy shops! With a $100 mat cutter and thrift store or other inexpensive pre-made frames it is easy to decorate the walls with great art on a small budget - you just have to find the right artwork. This is the beginning of a new blog where I will post links to artists I think you'll also love. Cheers!
